— SUPPORTING SECONDARY SCHOOL TRANSITIONS

ARE YOU READY FOR THE
BIG LEAP?

A short, powerful course – CONFIDENT BEGINNINGS to boost mental wellbeing — for parents & their children starting secondary school

🗓️

August - Tunbridge Wells

👩‍👧

For parents & children about to start secondary school

🧠

Led by Esther – Psychotherapist with 25+ years' experience working in the schools, NHS and in private practice.

Starting Secondary School is a Big Deal

Every September, thousands of children take a giant step:

🏫

From the cosy world of primary school

Where they know every face, every rule, and exactly what to expect each day. Where they've grown comfortable and confident in their familiar environment.

🔍

Into the fast-paced, high-stakes world of secondary school

It's exciting, but it can also feel stressful, lonely, or just a bit too much for both children and parents.

Why It Can Feel Overwhelming

🤝

New friends — and friendship changes

Navigating new social dynamics while maintaining old friendships

👩‍🏫

New teachers, routines, and expectations

Adapting to different teaching styles and academic demands

📱

Their first phone… and their first taste of the online world

Navigating social media and digital communication responsibly

🗝️

More independence — but also more responsibility

Learning to manage time, homework, and personal organisation

It's a perfect storm for anxiety, self-doubt, and overwhelm — for kids and their parents. It's a lot to take in, and it can stir up worries, self-doubt, and feelings of being overwhelmed.

That's Why I Created This Course

CONFIDENT BEGINNINGS

According to guidance from the Department for Education, a smooth transition for a child is marked by several positive signs:

  • Forms new friendships and shows increased self-confidence.

  • Settles into school life without causing worry for parents.

  • Demonstrates a growing interest in learning and classroom activities.

  • Adjusts smoothly to daily routines and the school's structure.

  • Experiences continuity in the curriculum from their previous setting.

Research has shown that good mental health enables children to face the change of this transition with confidence. This course isn't just about preparing for school. It's about building the confidence, calm, and connection your family needs to thrive in this next chapter.

"We do so much to protect kids' physical health — why not do the same for their emotional health?"

— Esther Obiri-Darko - Course Leader - Child, Adolescent and family Therapist
